How we help

Millions of Venezuelan women have been forced to leave their homes in search of safety and stability for their families. Many of these women had to leave their jobs or small businesses behind, but don’t have the resources to start their businesses in their new home country. Resol, with your help, provides these women with the resources and education they need to start businesses in their new home.

“I would make myself hot water with spices in it to fill my stomach. Every day I walked with my three children who are 17, eight, and three years old to the place where they could eat their one meal. It was very hard on them because it was a far walk. We had nothing. But with the help of Resol, everything has changed. With the support of my donor family, I was able to start my laundromat business. My children eat three meals a day at home, they are dressed well, we go to the park and even sometimes have enough to buy ice cream cones.”

“I came from Venezuela to Cuenca, Ecuador excited about the opportunity to work and provide for my family. Initially, I came on my own without my husband. We thought that because I had a degree in hotel management, it would be easy for me to find a job., but that was not the case. Because there was no work, I had to sell empanadas, cupcakes, and candies in the streets in order to pay rent and put food on the table. Those were very difficult times. I would make myself hot water with spices in it to fill my stomach. Every day I walked with my three children who are 17, eight, and three years old to the place where they could eat their one meal. It was very hard on them because it was a far walk. We had nothing. But with the help of Resol, everything has changed. With the support of my donor family, I was able to start my laundromat business. My children eat three meals a day at home, they are dressed well, we go to the park and even sometimes have enough to buy ice cream cones. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. God bless you.”

“After graduating from college in 2015, I started working at a local sales place earning a basic salary. My dad was earning less than me as an electrician and my mom, dedicated to the care of my brother, contributed by selling ice cream to neighborhood kids from our home. Though there were three people in the household working and bringing in full salaries, there was still not enough money to buy food. I was hesitant to leave the only place I had ever called home, but ultimately agreed. it didn’t seem right that in a home where three people are working full-time, there still wasn’t enough money to buy food. It doesn’t seem right that young people live in constant fear of being attacked, or everything they own being taken away at any moment. Nobody deserves to live in constant fear. I chose to leave my country; to continue fighting for my family by sending them whatever money I can, praying that they will be okay until the day we get to be together again.”

“Because of my nail salon, my family was able to survive our first month in Ecuador. Leaving your life is a huge change by itself, but when you take away job security on top of that, it is extremely difficult. My experience with RESOL has been a total blessing for me and for my family. We were so surprised when we found out that we had been chosen. We couldn’t even believe it. It wasn’t until David came to our house to interview me, that we realized someone was actually going to help us. We were going to be okay. The classes have been very dynamic, productive, and have taught me to study and develop other elements of my business that I had never thought of before. Thank you to the RESOL team and to all of our donors. I can assure you that what you have given us is a huge opportunity. There is nothing like RESOL for the Venezuelan refugees. We couldn’t even apply for a loan this big. Because of you, our lives are getting better.”
